GOING BACK TO THE BEGINNING

This morning I was met with a new post from Two Thirds Hazel that really convicting me of why I am still blogging.

I had this blog in high school with the main purpose of using it as a space to share what God was showing me and the amazing little things I found in life. Now don't get me wrong with the little things sometimes a link up or two and then the classics look what I did posts are fitting.

Lately, though, I knew my blog had become nothing short of a bland mindless zombie blog full of nonsense that no one needed to take the time to read.

I want to be fair to my followers, those who visit often, and those who are just now coming across my blog. I don't want to be the blogger who posts constantly about why pink is her favorite color, my love affair with tweed, or any other selfish thing I have been using this space for. I want to start opening my heart. This is a blogging community and I know that we all have battles we're waging, advice we need to hear from others. and then somedays we need the posts to bring out the positive in everyday things that just make us smile.

I vow to be a better blogger. I vow to show others my mind, heart, and issues that are in them. It will be a process, but I am willing to work at it.

So here's to my little corner of the internet... let's get real.

In my voice for the stage class we are working on poems and on a whim I chose a poem about how hope can kill the heart. I liked the idea of choosing this poem because for those of you who know me I am probably hope's biggest fan. I live by the motto dwell in the possibilities.

I do believe though it's what you put your hope in. Putting hope in myself can go two ways: I can become so self involved and obsessed that I kill all hope anyway and then there is the other way... you rely so much on yourself that anxiety builds.

Lately, I have been trying to rely too much on myself and putting the hope in my abilities but not taking the time to realize that it doesn't matter because ultimately my hope is in Christ, and that he has my world in his hands.

Now yes, you should own your craft (whether it is writing blogs, selling makeup, or anything else you do) but there is a difference between owning it and learning from experiences and worshiping your talent or lack there of.

I know my future is in God's hands and that I can dwell in the possibilities of God's love, power, and faithfulness. And I have hope in the fact that you can too.

OH TO BE ON THE COVER

Guys did you know I am on the cover of cosmopolitan? Just kidding... I am not pretty, famous, or talented enough for that. But thanks to the wonderful Erin, we all get the chance to feel like it for a day and answer their famous quizzes each cover girl always does. So grab a cup of coffee, pretend your reading Cosmo (sorry I can't follow up with some amazing make up and hair tips and then some sexy way to satisfy your man...) and get to know a little bit more about me.

You can grab your own blogmopolitan quiz and be a cover model for the day too :)

Ironically enough, my good friend is a graphic design major and for her project she has to make a fashion magazine that will be professionally printed and everything. Today I had an interview for it and she snapped some photos, so more on that to come later... ;) Oh to feel like a cosmo cover girl.

Don't forget to join in on the fun and try it yourself! :)

DEAR LITTLE ME

If there is one blog I adore, it's Autumn's she always has the best posts, the most witty comebacks to situations, and she is probably the most natural and gifted writers... her posts sometimes make me change my whole line of thought. So when she proposed this link up idea, I got super excited!

Dear Ten Year Old Brooke,
The best part about you is the fact you are beginning your journey and falling more and more in love with theatre and performing and you don't even know it. Trust me the fact you keep trying to teach the girls at the playground routines to grease and instructing your best friend on Judy Garland is going to pay off in the long run. I want to thank you little Brooke, your passion for the arts has stuck with me all these years. It's because of you that I have the passion I feel each day I walk out of a theatre class. Thank you.

Dear Seventh Grade Brooke,
On March 31st you wrote in your diary, the person you most are like is Miley Cyrus. I can in fact tell you, you are not. Twenty year old Brooke does not lick hammers, run around naked on wrecking balls, nor was I engaged to Liam Hemsworth (sorry to disappoint) Along with your feelings of being Miley, you also have wrote "I loathe ------ to persuade in his trivial likings as such. Love hits you and I have not yet seemed to become a hit victim." Don't worry, you are still as dramatic as ever, and that guy you loathed because he didn't let love hit you... he now looks like a hippy and you haven't really thought of him since. Also I am here to report that the love has still not let you become a "hit victim."

Dear Eighth Grade Brooke,
I am here to tell you that moving to a new school and being an hour away from your old friends is NOT the worst thing to ever happen to you. Remember how you dramatically had your first slow dance to Nick Lachey's What's Left Of Me with the boy you had a crush on for two years, you are still just as shy, romantic, and socially awkward when it comes to boys to this day... trust me. Stop being stressed over moving, these are going to be the best years of your life. You are going to meet your best friend forever, heck you might even meet your husband... I will get back to you on that one.

Dear High School Senior Brooke,
Stop crying and feeling guilty that you let a boy put his arm around you. In the words of Rizzo... there are worse thing I could do. This boy doesn't even matter and letting him put his arm around you doesn't make you a slut, his, or whatever else you were thinking at the time. The right guy is out there, and he won't make you feel guilty about letting him put his arm around you.

I could go on and on, and probably in the future.... I will. But for now here are some Letters To Myself... here's hoping twenty year old Brooke has learned a lot since then.

IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS

  • Saturdays are for waking up early and heading to lunch with your roomie.
  • Saturdays are for rehearsing a song (a personal favorite) and singing it for a video audition.
  • Saturdays are for enjoying a night out on the town for theatre with your mother.
  • Saturdays are for seeing the most thought provoking, genuine, and truthfully acted and heart wrenching show that makes you hold tight to the blessings in your life.
If you're in the area... I urge you to see Kindertransport now. I have never been impacted by a show quite like that one: the concept, the acting, and the story will stay with you for ages. If you aren't in the area I suggest looking into the play, it's one of the most emotionally gutting stories but has such beauty in the truth.

Saturdays are for the little blessings. The little things. The little joys. Thank God for Saturdays, and everything in between.
